An Advanced Training “Embedding Service Learning in STEM Education 2020”

Follow up from previous success of the collaboration program between VNUHCM – University of Science and Dublin City University – Ireland in 2018 and 2019, under the support of Irish Aid, the SL – STEAM group continued to organize an advanced training “Embedding Service Learning in STEM Education 2020” from 26 to 29 November 2020 at the University of Science.

The training attracted the participation of more than 200 lecturers, teachers, students, managers of universities, institutes, (special) schools, educational centers, shelters, etc. from different areas of the country. Dr. Huynh Quang Vu – Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Prof. Dang Duc Trong – Director of the Center of Mathematics and Science and Ms. Phan Nguyen Ai Nhi – Leader of the SL-STEAM group joined us at the opening ceremony with the participants and SL – STEAM group members.

The training provided the participants with an in-depth knowledge about how to organize the effective integrated SL – STEM class and also assessment activities. Many practical problems, various interdisciplinary experiments and SL – STEM projects in different levels of educational programs were discussed and implemented. The training also created opportunities for lecturers, teachers, students to connect with different community partners to establish meaningful SL – STEM projects.

Nguyen Ong Minh Quang (ex-student of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School and active student at the Faculty of Psychology of Van Hien University) and musical band of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science opened the closing ceremony with two excellent musical performances. Ms. Elisa Cavacece – Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland in Vietnam – sent the warmest congratulation to all the participants. The training also had a great honor to have Mr. Le Hoang Phong – member of Generation Unlimited (UNICEF) – share about the meaning of SL and STEAM education, and promote beautiful living values during the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
