[OUTSTANDING ROLE MODELS] VÕ HOÀNG HOA VIÊN: EXCEPTIONAL FEMALE STUDENT IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WITH A PASSION FOR DATA SCIENCE

Võ Hoàng Hoa Viên, a final-year student of the Talented Bachelor’s programme at the Faculty of Information Technology, VNUHCM-University of Science, made her mark by becoming one of the 20 exceptional female students to receive the “Vietnamese Female Science and Technology Student” award in 2024. With a strong passion for Data Science, Hoa Viên had an impressive academic journey and achieved many notable successes.

Remarkable Academic Achievements

Throughout her four years of study, Hoa Viên maintained a cumulative GPA of over 9 (on a 10-point scale). Alongside her studies, she actively participated in scientific research, publishing four papers. “I was particularly interested in fields such as natural language processing, cheapfake detection, and event querying,” she shared. In 2024, Hoa Viên’s relentless efforts were rewarded when she received the prestigious award for female students in Information Technology.

A Passion That Began with Numbers

Hoa Viên revealed that her love for Mathematics from high school led her to pursue Information Technology. “At that time, I was also considering and choosing between several universities, but after carefully reviewing the curriculum and learning environment, I decided to choose the University of Science,” Hoa Viên shared. She believed that this was the ideal place to develop herself and explore the research opportunities she sought.

An Ideal Learning Environment

Discussing her learning environment at the university, Hoa Viên said: “I felt very lucky to have great friends who were always willing to support and collaborate on group assignments. In addition, the thorough guidance from lecturers and the opportunity to participate in research projects were also major advantages. My field of study was not only interesting but also sparked curiosity, encouraging me to explore and develop continuously.”

Challenges and How She Overcame Them

When asked about the challenges she faced, Hoa Viên did not hesitate to share: “As a female student in the field of Engineering, one of the biggest challenges for me was balancing studies, research, and personal activities. Sometimes, unstable mental health made it difficult for me to maintain motivation and academic effectiveness.” However, with perseverance and a constant willingness to learn, Hoa Viên overcame all obstacles.

Family as a Solid Foundation

Hoa Viên has always considered her family to be her greatest source of motivation. “When facing difficulties, my parents’ words ‘Hang in there, everything will be fine’ always gave me the confidence to keep going and try harder.” She shared that the continuous support from her family, teachers, and friends had helped her achieve the success she enjoyed today.

Future Plans: Studying Abroad and Professional Development

When asked about her plans after graduation, Hoa Viên shared her desire to seek a scholarship to study abroad and continue her research in the field of Data Science or Artificial Intelligence. “I want to broaden my knowledge and research skills or find an opportunity to work at a technology company to gain practical experience,” she said.

With her efforts and passion, Võ Hoàng Hoa Viên has not only achieved remarkable accomplishments but also serves as an inspiration for many other female students to pursue the field of Information Technology.
