[OUTSTANDING ROLE MODELS] PROF. NGUYỄN TRUNG NHÂN: TENACITY, RESILIENCE, AND EMBRACING SETBACKS TO ENHANCE ONE’S ABILITIES

Prof. Nguyễn Trung Nhân, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at VNUHCM-University of Science, has supervised five DSc students, 40 MSc students, and numerous BSc. He has published 161 scientific papers, including 83 international articles and 70 national papers. These accomplishments highlight his determination and resilience throughout his dedicated career.

Prof. Nguyễn Trung Nhân, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at VNUHCM-University of Science, has had a distinguished career, supervising 05 DSc and 40 MSc students, and publishing 161 scientific papers, 83 of which have been internationally recognised. His success has stemmed from his perseverance, patience, and acceptance of failure.

Graduating in Chemistry in 1996 and earning a Master’s in Organic Chemistry in 2000 at VNUHCM-University of Science, he later pursued a DSc in Pharmaceutical Science from Toyama University, Japan. Appointed Associate Professor in 2013 and later Professor in 2024, he has continued to focus his research on the chemical components and biological activity of compounds derived from medicinal plants.

With Viet Nam’s rich biodiversity, Prof. Nhân has aimed to enhance the discovery and development of pharmaceutical materials from local plants to protect public health. His recent studies have included isolating over 30 compounds from the Ngải Bún root, with promising results in the fight against pancreatic cancer and other conditions.

Prof. Nguyễn Trung Nhân and the lecturers of the Faculty of Chemistry have been appointed or reappointed to the titles of Professor and Associate Professor.

As a seasoned educator with nearly 30 years of experience in Organic Chemistry, he has modernised curricula and developed a Master’s programme in Experimental Chemistry Teaching. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed gratitude for the recognition he has received, attributing his success to the support of family, friends, and students.
