On 2nd March 2026, VNUHCM–University of Science (HCMUS) received and worked with a delegation from the Viet Nam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and strategic partners, to discuss collaborative orientations in education and fostering mathematical talent.
The delegation featured Professor Ngô Bảo Châu, Scientific Director of VIASM; Associate Professor Lê Minh Hà, Managing Director of VIASM (attending online); Dr Trịnh Thị Thúy Giang, Deputy Director of VIASM; Ms Đinh Thị Hoa, Chairwoman of Galaxy Studio; and Professor Phan Thành Nam, Member of the VIASM Scientific Council (attending online).
Representing HCMUS were Associate Professor Trần Lê Quan, President; Dr Võ Đức Cẩm Hải, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science; Dr Hoàng Văn Hà, Vice Dean of the Faculty; and Heads of Departments within the Faculty.

During the session, the parties focused on collaborative initiatives to enhance educational quality, as well as to identify and nurture students with exceptional abilities in Mathematics at the undergraduate level. Discussions also covered the establishment of a roadmap for an elite doctoral education programme in the coming phase.
For the Honours Programme in Mathematics, the parties agreed to implement a series of advanced lectures featuring national and international experts invited by VIASM. Furthermore, VIASM shall provide financial support to the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science to facilitate the organisation, management, and operation of the programme according to high academic standards.

According to the proposal, the Honours class expects to enrol a maximum of 30 students per cohort, with all successful candidates receiving 100% tuition fee support.
Furthermore, outstanding students will be considered for monthly stipends at two distinct levels; the 15 million VND per month stipend requires candidates to pass a direct interview with Professor Ngô Bảo Châu and the VIASM Professional Council, while the remaining students shall undergo a specialised assessment to qualify for the 7.5 million VND per month support level.

This policy is scheduled for implementation from the 2026 admissions cycle as part of the VIASM Mathematics Development Programme, with sponsorship from the Viet Nam Innovative Education Foundation (VIEF). This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening the links between a key higher education institution and national academic bodies in Mathematics.

The partnership contributes to the development of high-quality human resources while affirming the core role of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at HCMUS in implementing the National Key Programme for the Development of Mathematics 2021–2030.
HCMUS also confirmed that scholarship policies under the National Key Programme for the Development of Mathematics 2021–2030 shall be maintained and implemented in parallel with the new VIASM support mechanisms.
