On 10th January, the inaugural annual scientific conference of the Stem Cell Institute (SCI TechUpdate 2024) successfully took place at the Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Organised by the Stem Cell Institute, University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, this conference provided an opportunity for scientists, doctors, and leading experts in the field of stem cells to gather, share, and update the latest research findings and applications.
The conference proudly welcomed 150 guests, including scientists, doctors, and experts from 43 research and application units of stem cells across the country, such as Thong Nhat Hospital, Van Hanh General Hospital, DNA International Hospital, Gia An 115 Hospital, Emcas Cosmetic Surgery Hospital, Ha Noi Postal Hospital, Central Lung Hospital, An Viet Hospital, and Siam Thailand Cosmetic Hospital.
FIVE NOTABLE SCIENTIFIC REPORTS
The inaugural event featured five significant presentations, delivering valuable updates from leading research and clinical units:
1. “What’s New in Stem Cells 2024? And Trends for 2025”
The opening presentation by Associate Professor Phạm Văn Phúc, Director of the Stem Cell Institute, provided a comprehensive overview of notable advances in stem cell research and applications in 2024. Associate Professor Phúc also shared forecasts of developmental trends for 2025, offering fresh and engaging information that underscored the importance of stem cell technology in modern medicine.
2. “Application of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Assisted Reproduction”
Dr. Bạch Thị Thu Cúc from the Assisted Reproduction Centre at Ha Noi Postal Hospital shared remarkable results achieved over the past five years, during which the unit applied autologous platelet-rich plasma to assist patients with infertility. The method involved using the patient’s own blood, extracting platelet-rich plasma, and injecting it into the uterus, which improved the implantation process and increased pregnancy rates.
3. “Research and Application of Stem Cells in Diabetes Treatment at DNA International Hospital”
Dr. Trịnh Như Thùy, Director of the Stem Cell and Tissue Bank at DNA International Hospital, presented promising applications of stem cells in diabetes treatment. The report provided detailed insights into clinical trials and initial results regarding the use of stem cells to achieve better diabetes control.
4. “Research and Application of Stem Cells in Aesthetic Procedures at Emcas Cosmetic Surgery Hospital”
Dr. (Level 1 Specialist Doctor) Phạm Xuân Khiêm, Director of Emcas Cosmetic Surgery Hospital, presented on the application of stem cells in modern aesthetic therapies.
5. “Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease with Stem Cells: New Findings”
Dr. Lê Thị Bích Phượng from Van Hanh General Hospital provided important information on the use of mesenchymal stem cells in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The report presented numerous clinical data demonstrating the ability of mesenchymal stem cells to regulate immunity, helping to reduce the frequency of acute episodes and improve patients’ quality of life.
The reports at the conference not only provided the latest updates but also showcased clinical experimental results conducted directly at leading healthcare facilities. These insights opened up many prospects for the practical application of stem cell technology, from treating complex diseases to enhancing health and improving quality of life.
The annual SCI TechUpdate 2024 conference clearly demonstrated the persistent efforts of the Stem Cell Institute, University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, in leading research and innovation. It also served as a bridge connecting scientists, hospitals, and top industry experts. This year’s event reaffirmed the significance of stem cell technology, opening up opportunities for multidimensional collaboration and promoting the application of advanced science, bringing achievements closer to life and contributing to the improvement of medical quality and public health.
The SCI TechUpdate 2025 conference and Stem Cell Day 2025 will be held on 20th December 2025.
