VNUHCM-University of Science (HCMUS) has significantly strengthened the institution’s international academic portfolio following a high-level dialogue convened on 30 September with Dr Wei-Chih Lin, Counsellor of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. The discussion centred upon doctoral funding, strategic research partnerships, and academic exchange initiatives.
Dr Lin presented a four-year, fully funded doctoral scholarship scheme sponsored by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. The grant offers a monthly stipend commensurate with living and study requirements. Such an initiative is designed to attract junior lecturers and researchers from Vietnam, affording a critical opportunity for these individuals to enhance professional qualifications and expand global collaboration networks. Successful candidates may further access supplementary support packages from Taiwanese universities, notably those institutions specialising in fields prioritised by the Taiwanese government.

Dr Lin observed that Southern Taiwan represents a vital research and industrial hub, exhibiting particular strength in semiconductors, materials science, chemistry, and biotechnology. The administration in Taiwan is currently implementing various preferential policies to recruit global talent and construct a supportive research ecosystem, thereby enhancing regional competitiveness.
Beyond scholarship provisions, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office emphasised the sustained demand for international lecturers and scholars across diverse Taiwanese research and educational establishments. Motivated by a strategy of workforce internationalisation, universities in Taiwan remain eager to recruit Vietnamese scientists to foster academic exchange and promote high-impact joint research endeavours.
