FOSTERING NUCLEAR HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION WITH THE KOREA NUCLEAR ASSOCIATION

On 16 July, the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics, VNUHCM-University of Science, welcomed a delegation from the Korea Nuclear Association for International Cooperation (KNA) as part of a working exchange programme focused on cooperation in nuclear education and human resource development.

The KNA delegation was led by Mr Min Cheol Lee – Executive Vice President, accompanied by Ms Joo Lee Jim – Director of Market Research. Representing the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics were Assoc. Prof. Dr Trần Thiện Thanh – Vice Dean, together with academic staff from the Department of Nuclear Physics.

In a constructive and professional dialogue, representatives from both sides exchanged views on four strategic areas, such as introduction of the ASEAN–Korea Nuclear Cooperation Initiative, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and strengthen capacity in nuclear science and technology through knowledge exchange, training, and technical support; discussion on the potential role of HCMUS as a lead institution or consortium member in implementing collaborative nuclear workforce training programmes; presentation of the capabilities and educational direction of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering Physics, focusing on specialised areas of study, domestic human resource demands, and long-term development strategies; exploration of future collaborative directions, including the establishment of a regular communication channel and the proposal of a clear roadmap for implementing specific joint activities.

This working session established a promising foundation for concrete joint efforts between HCMUS and KNA. The collaboration is expected to lead to practical initiatives in training, research, and the development of highly skilled human resources in nuclear energy – a strategic field for sustainable development in the region.
