On 22 October, VNUHCM–University of Science (HCMUS) met with representatives of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) to discuss postgraduate education needs, research capacity development, and study, scholarship and research opportunities in Australia.

Representing Austrade were Ms Lê Thị Thu Hiền and Ms Trịnh Phan Thùy Trinh, both Trade Development Directors. HCMUS was represented by Assoc. Prof. Võ Hồng Hải, Deputy Head of the Office of External Relations; MSc Trần Thị Phượng Giang, Deputy Head of the Office of Graduate Studies; and Ms Tôn Nữ Minh Tâm of the Office of Graduate Studies.

During the meeting, Austrade introduced the Australia–Viet Nam Postgraduate Study and Research Scholarships and Courses Programme 2027, scheduled to take place in Hà Nội and Ho Chi Minh City in April 2027. The programme aims to connect Australian universities and educational institutions with Vietnamese universities, research institutes and prospective students, broadening access to postgraduate programmes, scholarships and research opportunities.

Both parties discussed the University’s postgraduate training needs, areas of academic interest and approaches to strengthening the capabilities of academic staff and doctoral researchers. Austrade also welcomed feedback from University representatives to help refine the programme’s content and delivery, ensuring greater alignment with the practical needs of educational and research institutions in Viet Nam.

The meeting strengthened dialogue between HCMUS and Austrade and opened up opportunities to foster further connections with Australian educational institutions in postgraduate education and scientific research.
