Representatives of award-winning author teams in the field of Science and Engineering receiving prizes at the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Innovation Awards, with three honoured projects belonging to HCMUS.
On the evening of 1 July, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held the fourth Ho Chi Minh City Innovation Awards ceremony, recognising 51 exemplary projects, solutions, and works noted for creativity and high practical value. VNUHCM-University of Science (HCMUS) was honoured with three awards in the Science and Engineering category.
Three Honoured Projects in Science and Engineering
In this year’s awards, no First Prize was granted in the Science and Engineering category. HCMUS received one Second Prize and two Third Prizes, affirming the strength of the academic and scientific community in research and commitment to innovation.
The Second Prize was awarded to the project Application of Platelet Concentration Technology in Endometrial Regeneration, a collaboration involving Assoc. Prof. Trần Lê Bảo Hà and Dr. Lê Thị Vĩ Tuyết (HCMUS), alongside experts from Hung Vuong Hospital, including Assoc. Prof. Hoàng Thị Diễm Tuyết, Assoc. Prof. Huỳnh Nguyễn Khánh Trang, and MSc. Hoàng Thị Thùy Trang.

Two Third Prizes were awarded to the project Enhancing Charge Carrier Mobility in Transparent Electrode Layers, led by Dr. Phạm Thanh Tuấn Anh, Assoc. Prof. Trần Cao Vinh, and MSc. Hoàng Văn Dũng from the Advanced Materials Laboratory; and the project Integrated Memristor–Diode Arrays for Next-Generation Artificial Neural Networks, developed by Assoc. Prof. Phạm Kim Ngọc, MSc. Phạm Phú Quân, and undergraduate students Trần Thúy Anh and Võ Văn Anh Tài from the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology.
Innovation for Health and Future Technologies
A Solution Offering Hope to Infertility Patients
Among the three recognised projects, “Application of Platelet Concentration Technology in Endometrial Regeneration” stood out for breakthrough potential and clinical relevance, offering renewed hope for women experiencing infertility.
By employing PRF lysate – a biological extract derived from the patient’s own blood – the research team succeeded in restoring the endometrial lining, which plays a crucial role in embryo implantation and development. Clinical trials demonstrated successful pregnancies in two out of three patients who had previously failed to respond to other treatments.
Advanced Materials Research Supporting the Semiconductor Industry
The project “Enhancing Charge Carrier Mobility in Transparent Electrode Layers” focuses on the research and fabrication of ZnO semiconductor thin films with high electrical conductivity, while maintaining optical transparency, targeting applications in optoelectronic devices such as touchscreens, solar cells, and OLEDs.

By introducing dopants such as hydrogen, indium, aluminium, gallium, fluorine, and chlorine into ZnO structures, the team enhanced charge carrier mobility, reduced resistance, and improved transmission efficiency.
With semiconductors identified as a strategic sector for Viet Nam, this research marks a significant contribution towards developing domestic capacity in transparent conductive materials.
Advanced Materials Research Supporting the Semiconductor Industry
The project “Integrated Memristor–Diode Arrays for Next-Generation Artificial Neural Networks” explores a class of electronic components capable of recognising images and digits, with future applications in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Using thin-film fabrication techniques and semiconductor-based materials, the team successfully developed an integrated hardware array with the ability to recognise images and characters – a foundational step for future AI systems.
Drawing on over a decade of experience, the team continues to expand research directions to support hardware platforms for the next generation of AI technologies.
From Achievement to Sustainable Contribution
These achievements serve as a source of pride for HCMUS and provide strong evidence of institutional leadership in scientific research, technology transfer, and meaningful contributions to the advancement of science and technology in Ho Chi Minh City and across Viet Nam.
