With outstanding achievements in the field of new materials research, Dr. Phạm Thanh Tuấn Anh (born in 1992) is one of the 10 young scientists honoured with the Golden Globe Science and Technology Award. Let us take a closer look at his meaningful journey in scientific research.
From a Passion for Science to In-Depth Research
Tuấn Anh shared that he was first introduced to the field of thin-film semiconductors during his university years. With a passion for scientific research, particularly in the practical applications of materials in the conversion of energy between photons and electricity, thermal energy and electricity, and spectroscopy, he devoted time to exploring and optimising solutions within this field. Specifically, his research focused on thin-film materials based on zinc oxide, aimed at converting waste heat into electrical energy and contributing to environmental protection.

He admitted that the path to becoming a researcher was not easy, especially when faced with financial difficulties and a lack of equipment in the early stages. However, thanks to the support of his institution and the guidance and assistance of mentors and colleagues, everything gradually stabilised, allowing him to grow personally and contribute to the development of his unit and research group.
Challenges and Major Decisions in His Career
For Dr. Tuấn Anh, the journey of scientific discovery required not only hard work but also important life decisions. After graduating from university, he decided to stay in his hometown to pursue his career. In fact, he had often considered whether to continue his studies in Viet Nam or seek opportunities abroad. “If given the opportunity to work in developed countries, I think I could learn a lot, but I would have to sacrifice a few things to achieve a greater goal,” he explained.

He also mentioned that each research trip was a valuable experience, helping him to better define his future goals, especially in building a strong research team and creating practical value for the community.
Message to the Younger Generation Interested in Science
When asked about advice for young people pursuing a research career, Dr. Tuấn Anh stressed that perseverance and passion were key factors. “Scientific research is not only about working in the laboratory; it is also about connecting, learning, and contributing value to the community. If you truly love research, always maintain your passion as the driving force to overcome all barriers.”
He hopes that young people should strive to start with small steps, continually pushing themselves to achieve positive results, not only for themselves but for the community as well.
The Journey Continues with Big Hopes for the Future
Despite having achieved significant milestones, the young researcher still harbours aspirations for the future. With an optimistic spirit and a determined mindset, he hopes to continue making significant progress, not only in research but also in mentoring and inspiring the next generation.
“I hope that my sharing will help young people better define the path ahead,” he concluded.
