The aspiration to reach the world level, to become a leading research university system in Asia, where the convergence of science, technology, innovation, culture and knowledge of Viet Nam is the vision that University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City targets in the Strategic Plan for the 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2030. Quality assurance is the core content and critical task, aiming at each step to improve the quality of training and scientific research. For many years, VNU-HCM has operated throughout the internal quality assurance system from the VNU-HCM level to the member university level, and at the same time, promoted the assessment and accreditation of quality, contributing to the formation of the Viet Nam National University – Ho Chi Minh City and spreading the culture of quality throughout VNU-HCM.
In 2022, VNU-HCM had four member universities that have been externally assessed by the Central for Accreditation of Education Quality of Viet Nam National University and have been recognized to meet the quality accreditation standard, including the University of Science, the University of Information Technology, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Economics and Law. Based on that result, on the morning of March 20th, 2023, VNU-HCM, in collaboration with the Central for Accreditation of Education Quality of Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi, solemnly held a ceremony to announce the Decision and awarded the certificate of quality accreditation at the educational institution level to member universities of VNU-HCM.
Attending the ceremony, on the side of the Central for Education and Training – VNU, there was Dr Tạ Thị Thu Hiền – Director of the Centre; On the side of VNU-HCM, there was Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyễn Minh Tâm – Vice President of VNU-HCM and leaders of the office, functional departments and the Central for Examination and Evaluation of Training Quality; On the side of the member universities, there were representatives of the University Leadership Board, Faculties, Departments, Functional Committees, mass organizations, and media agencies and newspapers to report on the ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyễn Minh Tâm – Vice President of VNU-HCM, praised and congratulated the entire management team, lecturers, staff and students of the universities for their continuous efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning, scientific research, innovation and community service. “Today’s accreditation is an important testament to VNU-HCM’s continued ascent on the path of quality. However, we clearly define quality as a journey, not a destination”, Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyễn Minh Tâm emphasized.
On behalf of the Central for Accreditation of Education – VNUHN, Dr Tạ Thị Thu Hiền congratulated and highly appreciated the efforts and results of the member universities of Viet Nam National University, Ho Chi Minh City in the activities of education quality assurance and accreditation. The results achieved are the basis to help the Universities affirm the quality, position and prestige of education in the country and progress to the regional level. On this occasion, Director Tạ Thị Thu Hiền thanked the leaders and related units at Viet Nam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, for their interest in directing and effectively coordinating education quality accreditation activities recently.
Representatives of member universities of VNU-HCM gave a speech, Assoc.Prof.Dr Trần Lê Quan – Rector of the University of Science, VNU-HCM, would like to express his sincere thanks to the Central for Education and Training – VNUHN and the delegation of external assessment experts who have given honest recommendations and suggestions to help the Universities to complete their accreditation.
The University of Science, VNU-HCM, has achieved the official assessment results with a rate of satisfactory criteria of 96.4% (the impact of the first cycle is 86.9%). This result once again shows the high unity of all leaders, staff and students of the University of Science with the proper awareness of the importance of constantly improving the quality of education in the University, contributing to further enhancing the work of ensuring education, demonstrating the role and responsibility of a university before the society in fostering talents for the development of the country.
