THE 14TH INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE BETWEEN VNUHCM-UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND HALLYM UNIVERSITY, SOUTH KOREA

On 26th November, the 14th International Scientific Conference between VNUHCM-University of Science and Hallym University, South Korea, took place successfully.

At the opening of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Quách Ngô Diễm Phương, Dean of the Faculty of Biology – Biotechnology at the University of Science, emphasised the significance of the conference in promoting long-term international collaboration. She noted that this event provided an opportunity for participants to engage in academic exchange, share new findings, and expand their professional connections.

The conference programme was divided into two main discussion sessions, featuring several leading experts in the fields of neuroscience and biomedical research.

Session 1, chaired by Prof. Kyung Ho Yu and Prof. Đặng Thị Phương Thảo, focused on research related to neurodevelopmental disorders, presenting notable reports, including:
• “Developing model systems for autism spectrum disorder and therapeutic interventions” – Dr. Se Jin Jeon (Hallym University);
• “Genotype-driven therapeutics in developmental and metabolic epilepsy” – Dr. Bùi Chí Bảo (School of Medicine – VNUHCM);
• “Role of UCH-L1 in autism spectrum disorder” – Ms. Ngô Bình Thảo Nghi (HCMUS).

Session 2, chaired by Prof. Kwon-ik Oh and Assoc. Prof. Trương Hải Nhung, concentrated on research concerning neurodegenerative diseases and brain-body interactions. Presentations included:
• “Weaponising Enterovirus A71’s cellular receptor” – Dr. Trần Văn Hiếu (University of Science);
• “Inter-Organ Crosstalk in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Insights from Brain-Body Interactions” – Dr. Eun Hee Ahn (Hallym University);
• “The interaction between UCH-L1 and Parkin in Parkinson’s disease” – Mr. Đoàn Thế Quang Vinh (HCMUS).

Representatives from both universities engage in discussions following the presentations.

In the afternoon, the programme continued with an introduction from a Hallym University representative regarding the university and the postgraduate programmes. Notably, the student interview session enabled attendees to gain insights into study and research opportunities at Hallym. Additionally, conference delegates toured the modern laboratories at the University of Science, which included the Stem Cell Institute, Cancer Research Laboratory, Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Laboratory, and the Centre Laboratory for the Faculty of Biology – Biotechnology.

The 14th International Scientific Conference between the University of Science and Hallym University concluded, leaving participants satisfied. The event not only strengthened the cooperative relationships among the involved entities but also opened new avenues for scientific application, laying a solid foundation for long-term collaboration.
