On 29 September, the Faculty of Information Technology at VNUHCM-University of Science, (HCMUS) inaugurated two cutting-edge facilities: the Laboratory of Information Security and the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems.

According to Assoc. Prof. Trần Lê Quan, President of HCMUS, the two laboratories were established under a VNUHCM investment programme for 2020–2025 with a total budget of VND 70 billion (approximately £2.2 million). Nearly 60 per cent of the funding has been dedicated to a high-performance computing system, including the NVIDIA DGX Station supercomputer. The University of Science is the first VNUHCM member institution to operate this platform, enabling advanced research in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

“I believe these laboratories will be powerful tools for the Faculty of Information Technology to achieve further breakthroughs in scientific research and innovation, while enhancing its academic reputation both nationally and internationally,” said Assoc. Prof. Quan.

The laboratories are equipped with specialised servers, tools for virtual and augmented reality research, human–computer interaction technologies, Internet of Things devices, drones, and security-specific instruments. This comprehensive infrastructure provides a foundation for pioneering research directions and for the application and transfer of technology to industry.

Sharing the faculty’s strategic outlook, Dr. Đinh Bá Tiến, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, noted: “In line with global scientific and technological trends, our faculty is focusing on three key areas: artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, and information security. These will be the pillars of our research, meeting urgent societal needs and affirming our pioneering role in the digital era.”

Alongside equipment investment, the university has created a modern, green and open working environment. The new space is not only designed for research and experimentation but also serves as a hub for academic exchange, connecting students, faculty, researchers and industry partners, and nurturing emerging technological ideas.

The inauguration carried particular symbolic weight, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Information Technology. It marks both a celebration of past achievements and a commitment to future collaboration in research, technology transfer and the training of highly skilled professionals to support Vietnam’s sustainable development and international integration.
