Accomplished undergraduate and postgraduate student authors from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at VNUHCM-University of Science have achieved remarkable results by attending the 14th IEEE International Conference on Knowledge and Systems Engineering (KSE 2022) and the 36th Asia Pacific Conference on Languages, Information, and Computing (PACLIC 2022).

1. Runner-Up Best Paper Award at KSE 2022

   – Title of Paper: “A New Approach for Vietnamese Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis.”

   – Team Members: Lê Hoàng Bảo, Nguyễn Minh Hoàng, and Nguyễn Kiều Phương Nhi.

   – Instructor: Nguyễn Thanh Bình

   – Description of the Paper: The service industry played a vital role in our lives, particularly during a period when online activities became increasingly prevalent. Manufacturers, especially those involved in online product sales, constantly received customer feedback. Understanding this, the group of students optimised the provided data to develop a more effective predictive model than previous algorithms. This model evaluated overall content (products purchased) and detailed emotional levels (satisfied, neutral, or unsatisfied). Beyond providing a general solution, the research team set out goals and directions for future efforts to achieve even better outcomes.

   KSE is the most prestigious scientific conference in Viet Nam concerning information technology, held annually since 2008 in Japan and Thailand. The conference received technical sponsorship from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), one of the world’s leading scientific and technical organisations, and accepted papers for publication on IEEE Xplore, a highly respected electronic library system known for its comprehensive references and citations in various studies within electronic technology and computer science. This year, KSE 2022 was organised by the University of the Pacific and the University of Technology (Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi) from 19th to 21st October in Nha Trang, featuring 60 presentations from nearly 100 national and international scientists and researchers.

2. 1st Runner-Up Best Paper Award in Computing at PACLIC 2022

   – Title of Paper: “SEND: A Simple and Efficient Noise Detection Algorithm for Vietnamese Real Estate Posts.”

   – Team Members: Lê Hoàng Bảo, Nguyễn Minh Hoàng, Lê Huy Hoàng (Student of Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science), Huỳnh Thanh Sơn (Master of Science in Data Science).

   – Instructor: Nguyễn Thanh Bình

   – Description of the Paper: The advertisement of online products (e-commerce, real estate, etc.) gained popularity in Viet Nam. This paper presented straightforward and practical approaches to classifying useful information on online advertising sites. The experimental results demonstrated a high level of efficiency compared to previous methods.

   The 36th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Conference on Languages, Information, and Computation (PACLIC 36) is recognised as one of the most prestigious international conferences (rank B – CORE) in the domain of natural language processing. It took place in the Philippines from 20th to 22nd October 2022. This three-day conference was co-hosted by De La Salle University (Manila, Philippines), the College of Computer and Information Technologies (CCIT), Manila National University (Philippines), and the Lasallian Institute for Development and Education Research (LIDER).
