CONFERENCE “RESONANCES IN THE MATHEMATICAL WORLD” AND TEACHERS’ APPRECIATION CEREMONY

The conference “Âm hưởng trong thế giới Toán học – Resonances in the Mathematical World” officially commenced on the morning of 1st August 2024 at the University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City. This significant event was co-organised by VNUHCM-University of Science and the High School for the Gifted from 1st to 4th August 2024, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

On this occasion, an Appreciation Ceremony for Teachers was also held as part of the conference, aimed at honouring former leaders of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, former leaders of the High School for the Gifted, as well as alumni and former teachers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. Notably, the event served as a special occasion to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Đặng Đức Trọng, a respected teacher cherished by many generations of students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The presence of Associate Professor Vũ Hải Quân, Chancellor of VNUHCM; Professor Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai, Vice Chancellor of VNUHCM; Associate Professor Trần Cao Vinh, Vice Chancellor of VNUHCM; Associate Professor Trần Minh Triết, Vice President of the University of Science; Doctor Trần Nam Dũng, Vice Principal of the High School for the Gifted; numerous generations of esteemed teachers and leaders from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the High School for the Gifted; honoured guests; mathematicians from both domestic and abroad; alumni of the High School for the Gifted; alumni of the University of Science, particularly those from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science; along with more than 200 attendees contributed to creating a solemn and warm atmosphere for the conference.

The Chair of the Organising Committee, Assoc. Prof. Trần Minh Triết, Vice President of the University of Science, represented the institution by delivering the opening remarks and introducing the agenda, which included the preparations undertaken. Furthermore, he extended sincere gratitude to the sponsoring entities, the Organising Committee, the attending teachers, and the speakers, who were former students of the High School for the Gifted and alumni of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Assoc. Prof. Vũ Hải Quân, an alumnus of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and currently the Chancellor of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his honour and emotion upon returning to his alma mater, the place that had nurtured him and many generations of students in their pursuit of knowledge. He cherished the invaluable memories and lessons, as well as the mathematical thinking framework imparted by the teachers. He also conveyed profound appreciation to the teachers who dedicated themselves to the cause of education and expressed gratitude for the contributions made by alumni and former students in organising the conference “Resonances in the Mathematical World,” thus adding significance to the 30th anniversary of the university’s establishment.

Numerous well-planned activities took place during the conference, promising participants various opportunities to explore new research directions and experience diverse styles of learning and problem-solving in mathematics, facilitated by professors who were former students from both institutions.

The conference “Resonances in the Mathematical World” concluded after four days of lively activities. The organising committee hoped that the touching moments, valuable experiences, and inspiring academic atmosphere left a profound impression on all attendees, providing a solid foundation for future conferences.

The organising committee sincerely expressed gratitude to the leadership of VNUHCM, the leadership of the University of Science, the leadership of the High School for the Gifted, the leaders of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, and all guests, esteemed teachers, scientists, and mathematicians both domestically and internationally, along with the alumni, former students, and current students who travelled from afar to participate in the event.

The organising committee also acknowledged the dedicated staff and related units that were always present and provided timely support to ensure the smooth execution of the event.

Particularly, the organising committee conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the Vingroup Innovation Fund (VinIF), TITAN Education Joint Stock Company, BioTuring Co., Ltd., and other sponsors that consistently supported the event throughout its duration.
