On the morning of 19th August 2024, VNUHCM-University of Science held an engaging symposium entitled “Artificial Intelligence Towards the Future,” which attracted a considerable number of students, pupils, and educators. The event achieved remarkable success with the presence of numerous prominent figures in the fields of education and research.
During the opening ceremony, key representatives were in attendance, including:
– Assoc. Prof. Trần Cao Vinh – Deputy Director of VNUHCM, along with representatives from the Heads of Departments of VNUHCM;
– Assoc. Prof. Trần Lê Quan – President of the University of Science, together with representatives from the Deans of Faculties, Heads of Offices, and lecturers from the University of Science;
– Dr. Trần Nam Dũng – Vice Principal of the High School for the Gifted, Director of the Centre for Learner Capacity Development, accompanied by representatives from the Heads of Departments, Groups, and Teams, as well as educators from the Gifted High School.
The symposium proudly gathered leading experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), individuals who not only excelled with advanced and groundbreaking research but also made continuous contributions to the development of the industry. They shared their knowledge and insights, providing valuable and profound experiences to all attendees. Their presence not only enriched the content of the symposium but also created an open forum for everyone to exchange, discuss, and learn from one another about the challenges and opportunities that AI presents in the current era of 4.0 technology.
Doctor Thắng Lương – Senior Staff Research Scientist and Senior Manager at Google DeepMind, opened the programme with a presentation on “New Breakthroughs in AI for Knowledge Discovery.” He introduced impressive advancements in AI technology, particularly highlighting two applications: AlphaGeometry and AlphaProof. Additionally, Dr. Lương shared his personal journey and offered deep insights into the future of AI, especially concerning the enhancement of reasoning capabilities in current AI systems.
Following this, Professor Po-Shen Loh, a Mathematics Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and Founder of Social Solutions, presented on the topic “Applying Mathematics to Solve Major Challenges” within the current context of AI. The professor highlighted how mathematics could be applied to address pressing social issues, from epidemic control to educational improvements. By leveraging network and game theory, Prof. Loh inspired attendees with his innovations, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, Professor Truyền Trần, Head of the AI, Health, and Science Department at Deakin University, concluded the symposium with the topic “The Evolving Landscape of Modern AI.” Prof. Trần analysed the development and profound impact of Generative AI in reshaping human creativity and problem-solving methods. The professor also predicted that AI would have significant effects on industries and scientific fields in the future.
The symposium created a space for interaction, the sharing of valuable knowledge, and beneficial lessons, opening new perspectives for participants regarding Artificial Intelligence and potential future directions. The event reaffirmed the importance of Artificial Intelligence not only in research but also in addressing practical social issues.
