VNUHCM-University of Science has been accredited by ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics) for academic programmes in Earth Sciences, including Oceanography, Geology, Environmental Science, and Environmental Engineering Technology. The accreditation is valid until 30 September 2030.
This outcome followed a comprehensive review conducted by the ASIIN expert panel in December 2023. The assessment covered aspects such as curriculum structure, teaching and assessment methods, academic staff qualifications, facilities, research activities, and engagement with industry and professional organisations. Over the following months, departments involved revised their programmes in accordance with European accreditation standards.
ASIIN is a recognised accreditation body under the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). The organisation is known for applying a systematic and rigorous evaluation framework, and its certification is widely acknowledged in the international academic community.
Achieving ASIIN accreditation demonstrates alignment with international quality standards in higher education. It supports opportunities for academic and professional mobility for faculty and students in global contexts. The outcome also reflects the institution’s approach to ongoing improvement in science and technology training.
In the current context, where fundamental science disciplines face challenges in attracting public attention and investment, this development represents a meaningful step towards enhancing academic reputation and global competitiveness in Earth Sciences.
