MEETING AND BUILDING COLLABORATIVE RELATIONS WITH NATIONAL DONG HWA UNIVERSITY, TAIWAN

On 15th April, VNUHCM-University of Science hosted a significant meeting with a distinguished delegation from National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan, at the Nguyen Van Cu campus. This event forms part of the university’s continued efforts to expand international cooperation and strengthen ties with academic institutions across the globe, particularly in the fields of science and technology.

The meeting aimed to foster meaningful collaboration that would enhance the quality of education, research, and the development of highly skilled human resources. This partnership is aligned with the university’s broader strategic objectives, which focus on promoting academic exchange, facilitating cutting-edge research, and creating new opportunities for both students and faculty. By building on shared goals and expertise, the meeting represents a significant step forward in advancing VNUHCM-University of Science’s global presence and impact.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Wu-Yuan Huang – Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, NDHU – shared his thoughts, highlighting a strong willingness to collaborate and expectations for meaningful academic ties between the two institutions:

“The partnership between NDHU and VNUHCM-University of Science presents a vital opportunity to expand academic and research programmes. The intellectual capabilities and creativity of the Vietnamese are highly appreciated… The cultural similarities and interdisciplinary educational foundations of both institutions will foster the development of joint educational programmes, graduate supervision, and collaborative scientific research projects.”

Strengthening Academic Connections and Sharing Collaborative Potential

The meeting focused on an extensive exchange of information regarding the organisational models, key training and research fields, infrastructure, and strategic directions of each institution. NDHU highlighted its strengths in flexible, interdisciplinary education and research, while VNUHCM-University of Science shared details about its programmes from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, international publications, technology transfer activities, and industry partnerships.

Expanding Collaborative Opportunities

Both institutions identified shared goals in research directions, teaching methodologies, and internationalisation strategies. They agreed to continue discussions with a view to signing formal memoranda of understanding (MoU) or agreements (MoA) that will serve as the foundation for developing specific bilateral collaborative programmes in the near future.

Student Interviews – A Concrete Step Forward

The NDHU delegation conducted interviews with exemplary students from the Faculties of Chemistry, Physics – Engineering Physics, and Materials Science and Technology. This activity served as a preliminary assessment of students’ academic abilities and research interests, while also laying the groundwork for launching international student recruitment programmes and postgraduate training collaborations.

Representatives from both sides engage in dialogue to strengthen mutual understanding and collaboration.

Strengthening Professional Networks – Expanding Collaboration

In addition to institutional-level exchanges, representatives from both academic departments engaged in discussions on teaching approaches, research directions, and potential collaborations. These professional connections set the stage for deeper cooperation in teaching, research, and innovation, which will, in turn, improve the quality of education and research and open up new opportunities for students and faculty at both institutions.
