On the morning of 16th March, the Trade Union of the VNUHCM-University of Sciences held its Congress of Trade Union Delegates for the term 2023-2028.

In attendance to direct the Congress were Comrade Lâm Tường Thoại, Chairman of the Trade Union of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City, along with comrades from the Standing Committee and leaders from the specialised committees of the Trade Union of VNUHCM, as well as representatives from the leadership of the University’s Union.

Representing the VNUHCM-University of Science, were Comrade Trần Cao Vinh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University’s Council, and former Chairman of its Trade Union; Comrade Trần Lê Quan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President; alongside other members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors. Notably, the Congress was attended by 150 delegates from the Trade Union sections and the Trade Union Group affiliated with the University.

During the Congress, delegates listened to presentations, including a summary report on Trade Union activities for the term 2017-2022, the operational direction for the term 2023-2028, a review report from the Executive Board for the 2017-2022 term, and a report on the results of the General Meeting, synthesising the opinions of Trade Union members from the various divisions and groups.

Throughout the 2017-2022 term, the Trade Union achieved many significant results, implementing numerous innovations in both methods and content. It actively coordinated with the University in all activities, building a strong and cohesive organisation that affirmed the position and role of the Trade Union. Additionally, the Executive Board conducted a thorough review and evaluation of both advantages and challenges in management to identify causes and solutions for improvement in Trade Union activities.

The Congress warmly acknowledged various comments from leaders at all levels and Trade Union members regarding Trade Union activities, which will enable the Executive Board to better support its members.

At the Congress, Comrade Trần Cao Vinh affirmed the position and role of the Trade Union with three main functions. He encouraged the Trade Union staff and members to continue enhancing their position as a socio-political organisation, thereby contributing to the comprehensive development of the University.

Comrade Trần Lê Quan also endorsed the importance of the Trade Union of the VNUHCM-University of Science, expressing hope that its members would persist in their efforts to strengthen its role as a socio-political organisation that contributes to the University’s development. He assured that the University will continue to accompany and support the activities of the Trade Union.

The National University Ho Chi Minh City praised the achievements of the University’s Trade Union, as well as the dedicated leadership from the University’s Party Committee, whilst providing further insights on activity directions for the forthcoming term.

With a spirit of high responsibility, focus, fairness, and transparency, the Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Trade Union of the University of Sciences for the term 2023 – 2028, comprising the following 13 members:

The Congress outlined a direction to further promote the role of the Trade Union within the University for the term 2023 – 2028. The Trade Union of the University of Sciences will collaborate with the administration to effectively implement the Directives and Resolutions of the University’s Party Committee, the strategic plans of the University, and the resolutions of the upper-level Trade Union, with practical actions guided by the slogan: “Autonomy – Solidarity – Reaching Out.”

The newly elected Executive Committee of the Trade Union for the term 2023 – 2028 is committed to strengthening unity and solidarity, striving to fulfil their responsibilities as directed by the Congress, thereby contributing to the progressive development of the University.
