STEM CELL-DERIVED DRUGS FOR STROKE TREATMENT WON AT THE STEM CELL INNOVATION CONTEST

The idea of ​​creating drugs to support stroke treatment using secretions from stem cells won at the Stem Cell Innovation Contest with a reward of 20 million VND, awarded on December 3rd.

The goal of Tô Quốc Hòa, Huỳnh Đào Minh Châu, and Võ Trương Đăng Huy’s research, students at VNUHCM-University of Science, is to develop an oral medication that is reasonably priced and aids in the restoration of nerve cell function in stroke patients’ brains. The team used secretions from stem cells called exosomes that have properties similar to stem cells.

The Stem Cell Innovation Contest is organised annually by the Stem Cell Institute at VNUHCM-University of Science for students who are passionate about stem cell research. This year’s competition drew more than 260 projects from teams representing 30 universities and 20 high schools.
