On 12th December, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City convened a conference to announce the results of several component projects, specifically numbers 1, 3, 5, and 8, as part of the overall scheme for international-level workforce education and collaborative university initiatives. These projects aimed to cultivate high-quality human resources and foster connections and resource sharing among universities within the city.
During the conference, the component projects were unveiled, including Component Project 3 – International Workforce Education in the Field of Artificial Intelligence, which was led by the University of Science. The initiative to educate internationally qualified workforces in this area not only addressed the demands of the labour market but also contributed to enhancing Ho Chi Minh City’s competitive capacity within the context of international integration.
Mr. Phan Văn Mãi, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasised the significance of human resources in the economic development and restructuring of the city’s economy. He asserted that educating an internationally qualified workforce were decisive factors for sustainable development, particularly in high-tech fields such as Artificial Intelligence. He expressed optimism that the collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and employers would yield high-quality education programmes that aligned with the practical needs of the market.
At the University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the Bachelor’s programme in Artificial Intelligence had been implemented since 2021, marking it as the first education programme of its kind in the southern region. The university was also the first in Viet Nam to provide formal education in this field at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The University of Science had made significant strides in improving educational programmes, enhancing international cooperation, and engaging with businesses to develop suitable, advanced, and modern training curricula. This approach not only allowed students to access new knowledge but also equipped them with essential skills for working in an international environment.
During the conference, numerous cooperation agreements for education between higher education institutions and businesses were signed, demonstrating the commitment from both parties to enhance the quality of workforce training. Notably, the University of Science attracted interest from many companies in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence, opening up numerous internship and job opportunities for students.
The involvement of the University of Science in the international-level workforce education project not only affirmed the institution’s prestige but also served as evidence of the dynamic transformation of higher education in Viet Nam amidst global integration.
The overall international-level workforce education project for the period 2020 – 2035 had been approved by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to develop internationally qualified undergraduate and postgraduate human resources for key industries.
The project focused on eight primary fields, including Information Technology and Communication; Mechanical Engineering and Automation; Artificial Intelligence; Business Administration; Finance and Banking; Healthcare; Tourism; and Urban Management.
Among the eight component projects, results had been announced for four, as follows:
– Component Project 1: International-level workforce education in Information Technology and Communication at the University of Technology, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
– Component Project 3: International-level workforce education in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
– Component Project 5: International-level workforce education in Finance and Banking at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.
– Component Project 8: International-level workforce education in Urban Management at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
