VNUHCM-UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE ACHIEVES EXCEPTIONAL RESULTS IN SCIENCE COMPETITION IN ITALY

On 1st and 2nd September, the Symposium on 3D Object Retrieval 2022 (3DOR’22) Conference took place in Florence, Italy. During the event, the organisers announced the evaluation results for the topics of the SHREC 2022 contest.

Research groups composed of students, postgraduates, researchers, and members from the Faculty of Information Technology, Software Engineering Laboratory (SELab), and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (AILab) participated in five out of six topics of the SHREC 2022 contest. They achieved the highest results in three of those six topics. The methods developed by the research groups from the University were published alongside those of other research groups from around the world in five papers in Volume 107 of Computers & Graphics, Elsevier (group Q1).

  1. Theme: Sketch-based 3D Shape Retrieval in the Wild

Organising committee members included Jie Qin, Shuaihang Yuan, Jiaxin Chen, Boulbaba Ben Amor, Yi Fang, Nhat Hoang-Xuan, Chi-Bien Chu, Khoi-Nguyen Nguyen-Ngoc, Thien-Tri Cao, Nhat-Khang Ngo, Tuan-Luc Huynh, Hai-Dang Nguyen, Minh-Triet Tran, Haoyang Luo, Jianning Wang, Zheng Zhang, Zihao Xin, Yang Wang, Feng Wang, Ying Tang, Haiqin Chen, Yan Wang, Qunying Zhou, Ji Zhang, and Hongyuan Wang.

Team HCMUS-1 comprised Hoàng Xuân Nhật, Chu Chí Biên, and Nguyễn Ngọc Khôi Nguyên.

Team HCMUS-2 comprised Huỳnh Tuấn Lực, Cao Thiên Trí, and Ngô Nhật Khang.

Mentors included Nguyễn Hải Đăng and Trần Minh Triết.

Results: HCMUS-1 secured first place in both Tasks 1 and 2; HCMUS-2 achieved second place in Task 2.

  1. Theme: Pothole and Crack Detection on Road Pavement Using RGB-D Images

Organising committee members comprised Elia Moscoso Thompson, Andrea Ranieri, Silvia Biasotti, Miguel Chicchon, Ivan Sipiran, Minh-Khoi Pham, Thang-Long Nguyen-Ho, Hai-Dang Nguyen, and Minh-Triet Tran.

Team members from HCMUS were Phạm Minh Khôi, Nguyễn Hồ Thăng Long, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, and Trần Minh Triết.

Result: Achieved the highest mark in 3 out of 5 evaluation criteria.

  1. Theme: Open-Set 3D Object Retrieval

Organising committee members included Yifan Feng, Yue Gao, Xibin Zhao, Yandong Guo, Nihar Bagewadi, Nhat-Tan Bui, Hieu Dao, Shankar Gangisetty, Ripeng Guan, Xie Han, Cong Hua, Chidambar Hunakunti, Yu Jiang, Shichao Jiao, Yuqi Ke, Liqun Kuang, Anan Liu, Dinh-Huan Nguyen, Hai-Dang Nguyen, Weizhi Nie, Bang-Dang Pham, Karthik Raikar, Qingmei Tang, Minh-Triet Tran, Jialong Wanh, Chenggang Yan, Haoxuan You, and Difei Zhu.

Team members from HCMUS included Phạm Băng Đăng, Đào Hiếu, Nguyễn Đình Huân, Bùi Nhật Tân, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, and Trần Minh Triết.

Result: One of the two teams with the highest results.

  1. Theme: Online Detection of Heterogeneous Gestures

Organising committee members included Marco Emporio, Ariel Caputo, Andrea Giachetti, Marco Cristani, Guido Borghi, Andrea D’Eusanio, Minh-Quan Le, Hai-Dang Nguyen, Minh-Triet Tran, Felix Ambellan, Martin Hanik, Esfandiar Nava-Yazdani, and Christoph von Tycowicz.

Team members from HCMUS were Lê Minh Quân, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, and Trần Minh Triết.

  1. Theme: Fitting and Recognition of Simple Geometric Primitives on Point Clouds

Organising committee members included Chiara Romanengo, Andrea Raffo, Silvia Biasotti, Bianca Falcidieno, Vlassis Fotis, Ioannis Romanelis, Eleftheria Psatha, Konstantinos Moustakas, Ivan Sipiran, Quang-Thuc Nguyen, Chi-Bien Chu, Khoi-Nguyen Nguyen-Ngoc, Dinh-Khoi Vo, Tuan-An To, Nham-Tan Nguyen, Nhat-Quynh Le-Pham, Hai-Dang Nguyen, Minh-Triet Tran, Yifan Qie, and Nabil Anwer.

Members from the HCMUS-1 group included Nguyễn Quang Thức, Chu Chí Biên, and Nguyễn Ngọc Khôi Nguyên.

Members from the HCMUS-2 group included Tô Tuấn An, Nguyễn Nhâm Tấn, Lê Phạm Nhật Quỳnh, and Võ Đình Khôi.

Mentors for both groups were Nguyễn Hải Đăng and Trần Minh Triết.
