The University of Science, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, aspires to reach global standards and become a leading research university in Asia—bringing together science, technology, innovation, culture, and knowledge of Viet Nam. This vision is outlined in the Strategic Plan for the 2021-2025 period, which extends to 2030. Quality assurance is at the core of this plan, reflecting a critical task aimed at continuously enhancing the quality of education and scientific research. Over the years, VNUHCM has implemented an internal quality assurance system that operates at both the VNUHCM level and that of its member universities, while also promoting external assessment and accreditation efforts. This commitment contributes to strengthening the VNUHCM network and fosters a culture of quality throughout the institution.

In 2022, four member universities of VNUHCM were externally assessed by the Centre for Accreditation of Educational Quality of VNUHCM and subsequently recognized for meeting accreditation standards. These universities include the University of Science, the University of Information Technology, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the University of Economics and Law. Based on these results, a ceremony was held on the morning of March 20, 2023, where the Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with the VNUHN-Central for Accreditation of Education Quality, solemnly announced the Decision and awarded the quality accreditation certificate at the educational institution level to its member universities.

Attending the ceremony were Dr. Tạ Thị Thu Hiền, Director of the Centre for VNUHN Accreditation of Education, alongside Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Minh Tâm, Vice Chancellor of VNUHCM, as well as leaders from various offices and functional departments, and representatives from the University Leadership Board, Faculties, Departments, Functional Committees, mass organizations, and media agencies.

At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Minh Tâm praised and congratulated the entire management team, lecturers, staff, and students of the universities for their relentless efforts to improve the quality of teaching, scientific research, innovation, and community service. “Today’s accreditation is an important testament to VNUHCM’s continued progress on the path to quality. However, we must clearly define quality as a journey, not a destination,” emphasized Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Minh Tâm.

On behalf of the Central for VNUHN Accreditation of Education, Dr. Tạ Thị Thu Hiền congratulated and praised the efforts and achievements of VNUHCM’s member universities in ensuring and accrediting education quality. These results serve as a solid foundation for the universities to affirm their educational quality, position, and prestige in the country and pave the way towards regional recognition. Dr. Hiền also thanked the leaders and relevant units of VNUHCM for their support and effective coordination of recent accreditation activities.

In his address, Assoc. Prof. Trần Lê Quan, President of the University of Science, expressed sincere gratitude to the VNUHN-Central for Education and Training and the delegation of external assessment experts for their honest recommendations and feedback, which have greatly assisted the universities in achieving accreditation.

The VNUHCM-University of Science achieved an official assessment score with 96.4% of criteria met (with an impact rate of 86.9%). This result underscores the strong unity among the leadership, staff, and students of the University of Science, as they collectively recognize the importance of continuously improving the quality of education, which in turn enhances their commitment to fulfilling their societal responsibilities by nurturing talent for national development.
